Feminine Wipes

We manufacture private label feminine wipes formulated to the pH of healthy vulvar skin — 3.5 to 4.5, not the 5.5 that general body products use. Made in the USA for feminine care brands, retailers and subscription programmes, with fragrance-free and flushable options.

How it works

The pH number that makes this a different product

Almost every wet wipe on the market is formulated to pH 5.5, the pH of general healthy skin. The vulvar and vaginal environment is considerably more acidic — roughly pH 3.5 to 4.5 — and that acidity is not incidental. It is maintained by Lactobacillus species producing lactic acid, and it is the primary defence against overgrowth of the organisms responsible for bacterial vaginosis and candidiasis. Applying a pH 5.5 product, or worse a soap at pH 9, repeatedly nudges that environment toward conditions where the protective flora struggles.

So a genuine feminine wipe is defined by its buffer system. Ours uses lactic acid — the same acid the resident flora produces — to hold the formulation in the 3.5–4.5 band, with very mild non-ionic surfactants at low load and no anionic detergents. Fragrance is available but we recommend against it as the default: added fragrance is a common irritant in this application and the fastest route to negative reviews.

Two boundaries the copy must respect. These are external products — for the vulva, not the vagina; internal douching disrupts exactly the flora the product is meant to protect, and pack copy should say so plainly. And a feminine wipe is a hygiene product, not a treatment: symptoms of infection need a clinician, not a wipe. Brands that state both clearly are trusted more, not less.

At a glance

✓pH 3.5–4.5, lactic acid buffered

✓No anionic detergents; low surfactant load

✓Fragrance-free recommended as the default

✓Flushable and biodegradable substrate options

✓Gynaecologist-tested and HRIPT options

External use only. Pack copy should state this and should not imply treatment of infection.

Applications

Where feminine wipes sell

A high-volume, high-repeat category where trust and ingredient transparency drive brand choice more than price.

01

Everyday feminine care retail

Resealable 20–30 count packs in pharmacy and grocery — the category core, bought on routine rather than on occasion.

02

Individually wrapped on-the-go

Single sachets for handbags, gym bags and desk drawers. Discretion is the product benefit, and it is entirely a packaging decision.

03

Post-workout & activewear

Marketed around the humid, occlusive conditions of leggings and long training sessions, sold through fitness rather than pharmacy channels.

04

Travel, festival & camping

Where facilities are poor or absent, frequently co-packed with hand and body wipes as a hygiene kit.

05

Postpartum & recovery care

Gentler fragrance-free formulations with witch hazel or aloe for perineal comfort, sold through maternity and hospital-discharge channels.

06

Subscription & DTC feminine brands

The fastest-growing segment, where a short, legible ingredient list and a clear pH claim are the entire marketing proposition.

If a flushable claim is intended, the substrate must be a genuinely dispersible grade and the claim should be qualified — flushability standards and municipal wastewater tolerance are not the same thing, and overclaiming here attracts regulatory attention.

Feminine, intimate or period care?

These three overlap in the aisle but not in the specification. Each is a distinct SKU with a distinct buyer moment.

Private Label & OEM

A category where getting the details right is the marketing

Feminine care buyers read ingredient lists. A wipe at pH 4.0 with lactic acid, no anionic surfactants and no fragrance is not just a better product — it is a clearer story than any amount of packaging design. We formulate and validate to that spec, run gynaecologist testing where a claim requires it, and manufacture in the USA.

✓Fragrance-free as the default, fragranced on request

✓Flushable dispersible substrate with qualified claim language

FAQ

Feminine wipes FAQ

Why do feminine wipes need a different pH from normal wipes?

Because the environment is different. General skin sits around pH 5.5, but the vulvar and vaginal environment is around pH 3.5–4.5, maintained by lactic-acid-producing Lactobacillus. That acidity is the main defence against bacterial vaginosis and candidiasis. Repeatedly applying a pH 5.5 product — let alone soap at pH 9 — works against it. A wipe that is not pH-buffered to the 3.5–4.5 band is a body wipe with feminine branding.

Are fragranced feminine wipes safe to use?

They are legal and widely sold, but we recommend fragrance-free as the default formulation. Added fragrance is one of the more common irritants in this specific application, and irritation in this area generates strong negative reviews and returns. Where a brand wants a fragranced SKU, we keep the level low and run patch testing.

Can feminine wipes be used internally?

No, and the pack should say so explicitly. These are external products for the vulva. Internal cleansing or douching disrupts the vaginal flora the product exists to protect and is associated with a higher rate of infection, not a lower one. Clear external-use-only copy protects both the customer and the brand. Technique questions like this one are covered from the end user’s side in our guide to correct wiping technique.

What is the difference between feminine wipes and intimate wipes?

In practice, positioning and audience. Feminine wipes are formulated for the vulvar pH range and marketed for daily feminine hygiene. Intimate wipes are usually broader — unisex, including a real men’s segment, focused on discretion and single-sachet portability, and often at a slightly higher pH because they are not exclusively vulvar. We make both as separate SKUs with separate specifications.

Are flushable feminine wipes really flushable?

Only if built on a genuinely dispersible substrate, and even then the claim needs qualifying. A dispersible wipe passing industry slosh-box testing is not the same as a wipe that is welcome in every municipal wastewater system. We supply the dispersible grade and help write claim language that is accurate rather than optimistic. The dispersibility testing behind the claim is explained in what makes a wet wipe flushable.

Can you make a postpartum or perineal version?

Yes. Postpartum formulations drop fragrance entirely, often add witch hazel or aloe for comfort, use a larger and softer wipe, and are frequently supplied in a plain, clinical-looking pack for hospital discharge bags as well as retail. It is a distinct SKU from the daily product.
