Puppies and kittens have thinner skin, a still-developing barrier and a much higher surface-area-to-body-weight ratio than adults — so any topical exposure is proportionally larger, and their capacity to tolerate an irritant is lower. That alone justifies a milder formulation: minimal ingredient deck, very low non-ionic surfactant load, pet-appropriate pH, no fragrance, no essential oils, no alcohol, and absolutely no xylitol.
But there is a second reason this product deserves care, and it is behavioural. The primary socialisation window closes at around twelve to sixteen weeks. Experiences in that period shape how an animal responds to handling for the rest of its life. A puppy whose paws, ears and face are wiped gently and uneventfully during those weeks becomes a dog that tolerates grooming, nail trims and veterinary examination. A puppy that gets stung by an alcohol-based wipe or scared by a strong smell learns the opposite, and that lesson is expensive to unlearn — vets and groomers deal with the consequences for years.
So “tear-free” and “fragrance-free” here are not marketing softeners; they protect a training outcome. Practically, the wipe should be smaller than an adult wipe — better control on a wriggling animal, and it suits toy breeds and kittens — on a soft, high-loft substrate. Can I use regular dog wipes on a puppy?

Are puppy wipes safe for the face and around the eyes?

What should never be in a puppy wipe?
Xylitol above all — it is severely toxic to dogs and appears in human products as a sweetener, so it has to be an absolute exclusion. Also alcohol, which stings and dries; fragrance and essential oils, which are common sensitisers and unsafe for cats; and dyes, which serve no purpose whatsoever in a wipe.
