Hand Cleaning Wipes for Technicians

We manufacture private label degreasing hand wipes for drivers, technicians and forecourts — a citrus d-limonene system with an emollient fraction and no pumice or walnut grit, on a dual-texture 70 gsm sheet with a scrub face. Strong enough for oil and grease, kind enough to use ten times a shift.

How it works

How a degreasing hand wipe lifts oil without pumice or solvent burn

Grease does not wash off with soap because it is not water-soluble — that is the entire problem, and there are only three ways round it. You can abrade it off with pumice or ground walnut shell; you can dissolve it with a petroleum distillate; or you can solubilise it with a terpene solvent and a surfactant so that water can then carry it away. The first two are what the traditional workshop hand cleaner does, and both of them treat the skin as collateral.

The cost is specific and cumulative. Abrasives physically scour the stratum corneum, the outer barrier layer; used several times a day across a working week the barrier does not have time to rebuild, and the result is the cracked, sore hands that are so normal in the trade that people assume they are unavoidable. Petroleum distillates defat the skin chemically, dissolving the intercellular lipids along with the grease, which produces the same outcome by a different route. Neither actually cleans better than the modern alternative; they simply feel more aggressive, which is often mistaken for working.

Our system uses d-limonene, a citrus terpene that dissolves petroleum oils and greases readily, paired with a non-ionic surfactant that emulsifies the result so it lifts onto the sheet rather than smearing. d-limonene is a skin sensitiser at high loading, so it is buffered and carried at a working concentration rather than the maximum one, and an emollient fraction goes back onto the skin as the wipe passes. The mechanical work is done by the substrate instead of by grit: a 70 gsm dual-texture sheet with an open scrub face for the first pass and a smooth face to finish. It is a cleaning wipe, not a sanitizing one — for a hand hygiene claim, see our hand sanitizing wipes.

At a glance

Not for: a hand-sanitizing or antibacterial claim — this product cleans, it does not disinfect.

Applications

Where degreasing hand wipes are used

The buyer is almost always an employer or a retailer rather than the end user, which makes packaging and dispensing as important as the formulation.

01

Workshops and service bays

Used many times a shift, which is exactly why the no-abrasive specification matters commercially as well as ethically.

02

Forecourts and fuel retail

The dispenser beside the diesel pump. A branded sachet here is one of the highest-frequency brand impressions in retail.

03

Roadside assistance and breakdown

The technician works at the vehicle with no water supply, which is the situation a wipe was invented for.

04

Fleet and haulage cabs

Drivers coupling trailers and checking loads need a canister in the cab, not a sink they will not reach for hours.

05

Agriculture and plant hire

Heavier soiling, longer intervals between washing, and a workforce that has historically had no good option.

06

Auto-parts retail

Sold at the till alongside oil and filters — the classic attachment purchase for the DIY mechanic.

Specifications

Hand wipe specifications

Solvent loading and sheet texture are the two variables customers actually tune here, depending on how heavy the soiling is and how often the wipe is used.

Comparison

Hand wipes vs. the rest of the automotive range

This is the only product in the range formulated for skin, which changes the pH target, the emollient load and the safety envelope completely.

Private Label & OEM

Built to be used ten times a day

The commercial argument in this category is repeat use. A wipe that hurts to use gets rationed, and a rationed hand wipe does not build a habit or a reorder. Specifying out the abrasive and the distillate costs a little more per sheet and returns it in volume — and it is a claim a fleet or workshop buyer can take to their own safety committee.

FAQ

Hand cleaning wipes FAQ

Why no pumice? Traditional hand cleaners all have grit in them.

Because the grit works on the grease and on your skin barrier at the same rate. Pumice and ground walnut abrade the stratum corneum, and used several times a day the barrier never rebuilds — that is the mechanism behind the cracked, sore hands the trade has always treated as normal. A terpene solvent with a textured substrate cleans just as well and does the mechanical work with the sheet rather than with mineral particles.

What is d-limonene and is it safe on skin?

It is the citrus terpene that gives orange peel its smell, and it is an excellent solvent for petroleum oils — which is why almost every modern citrus hand cleaner is built on it. It is a recognised skin sensitiser at high concentration, so the honest answer is that dose matters: we carry it at a working concentration well below the maximum, buffered, with an emollient fraction to offset it. A product that smells overwhelmingly of orange is usually telling you it is loaded higher than it needs to be.

Do these wipes sanitize hands as well as clean them?

No, and we will not label them as if they do. Cleaning and sanitizing are different actions with different actives, and a sanitizing claim in the United States carries regulatory obligations we take seriously. In a workshop, cleaning is the job that matters — for hand hygiene before eating or after patient contact, use a proper hand sanitizing wipe, which we also manufacture.

Will they remove diesel, brake dust and adhesive?

Diesel and engine oil, yes — that is the core case for a terpene system. Brake dust comes off as a surface deposit but not where it is ground into a cuticle. Fresh adhesive and most inks lift; cured two-part adhesives and epoxies do not, and nothing hand-safe removes those. Where the soiling is genuinely industrial we raise the solvent loading rather than adding an abrasive.

What size should a workshop hand wipe be?

Larger than people expect. A 10″ × 12″ sheet folds into enough clean faces to do two hands properly; anything smaller gets used two at a time, which costs the buyer more per clean and makes the product feel weak. The 8″ × 10″ size is right for forecourt and glovebox single sachets, where the job is smaller.

Can you supply these in a forecourt dispenser?

Yes. Wall-mount and floor-standing canisters are the standard fit for forecourts, workshops and parts counters, and they are the format where your branding is seen most often, because the dispenser stays in place for years. We supply the canister, the artwork and the refill packs from the same run.
