Organic Baby Wipes
We manufacture private label organic baby wipes with certified organic botanicals on an organic cotton or bamboo substrate — and with the chain-of-custody documentation that makes the word “organic” on your pack legally defensible. Made in the USA.

How it works
Organic is a documentation problem before it is a formulation problem
Anyone can put a leaf on a pack. Putting the word organic on it in a way that survives a retailer audit or a regulatory challenge requires an unbroken chain of custody: certified organic raw materials with valid certificates, a certified handler, batch-level traceability from grower to finished pack, and a percentage calculation done to the rules of whichever scheme you are claiming under. USDA NOP and COSMOS have different calculation methods and different thresholds, and water is treated differently under each — which matters enormously for a product that is mostly water.
That last point is where most organic wipe claims fall apart. A wet wipe is 95%+ water by weight, and water cannot be certified organic. Depending on the scheme, water is either excluded from the calculation or counted, and the resulting “percentage organic” figure can differ by an order of magnitude for the identical product. We work out which claim your target market and retailers will accept before formulating, because retrofitting a certification pathway to a finished formula is expensive and often impossible.
On the formulation itself: certified organic botanical extracts — chamomile, calendula, aloe — a low non-ionic surfactant load, pH 5.5, and an organic cotton or bamboo substrate, which also supports the biodegradability claim that organic buyers expect alongside. Preservation is the constraint: many conventional preservatives are not permitted under organic schemes, so shelf life is 18–24 months and the microbiological control plan has to work harder.
At a glance
✓Certified organic botanical extracts with valid certificates
✓Organic cotton or bamboo substrate
✓Batch-level chain-of-custody traceability
✓Scheme selected before formulation, not after
✓pH 5.5, low non-ionic surfactant load
Water cannot be organic. USDA and COSMOS calculate percentages differently — the claim has to be decided up front.
Applications
Where organic baby wipes sell
A premium price point with an unusually well-informed customer who will check the certification mark.
01
Natural & organic grocery
Retailers in this channel audit claims rather than accepting them, so proper certification is the entry ticket rather than a marketing bonus.
02
Premium baby & boutique
Independent baby retail where the organic mark carries the price point and the staff explain it at the till.
03
DTC clean-beauty-adjacent brands
Baby lines built by founders from the clean-beauty world, where certification literacy is high and vague claims are called out publicly.
04
Eco-conscious subscription boxes
Nappy and baby subscriptions built on a sustainability promise, where the wipe substrate and the pack are judged together.
05
Export markets
COSMOS certification travels into European and other markets far better than an uncertified natural claim — worth deciding early if export is a goal.
06
Gift & newborn hamper
Premium gifting where certification marks function as visible quality signalling on the pack.

Packaging formats

- Multipack3 or 4 packs
- Travel pack20–25 wipes
- Plastic-free packPaper-based outer
- Tub + refillDispenser tub with refill
- Gift packPremium hamper format
If a plastic-free outer pack is part of the positioning, raise it at the start. Paper-based packaging changes the moisture-barrier calculation and therefore the shelf life — it is a formulation constraint, not a packaging swap.

How our baby wipe formulations compare
Organic is the only SKU here where the constraint is a certification scheme rather than a skin-performance target.

Get the certification decision right first
The most expensive mistake in this category is formulating a product and then trying to certify it. Scheme rules govern permitted preservatives, permitted surfactants and how water is counted — decisions that have to be made before the first sample. We start from the claim you need in your target market and work backwards, so the certificate and the formula arrive together.
✓Certification scheme chosen before formulation begins
✓Valid certificates for every organic input, batch-traceable
✓Organic cotton or bamboo substrate options
✓Plastic-free outer pack evaluated against shelf life
✓Export-market claim requirements assessed up front
FAQ
Organic baby wipes FAQ
Can a baby wipe really be certified organic if it is mostly water?
This is the central question in the category. Water cannot be certified organic, and a wet wipe is over 95% water by weight — so the honest answer depends entirely on the scheme. USDA NOP and COSMOS treat water differently in their percentage calculations, which means the same physical product can carry very different “percent organic” figures. Deciding the scheme first is essential.
What is the difference between organic and natural baby wipes?
“Natural” is essentially unregulated and means whatever the brand wants it to mean. “Organic” under USDA or COSMOS requires certified inputs, a certified handler, batch traceability and a calculation done to published rules. That is why organic costs more and why organic-channel retailers audit it — the certificate is the claim.
Does an organic wipe use an organic substrate too?
It should, and buyers in this channel expect it. We offer organic cotton and bamboo viscose substrates, which also underpin the biodegradability claim that organic customers assume comes with the product. A certified organic liquid on a polyester substrate is a claim that invites criticism.
Why is the shelf life shorter on organic wipes?
Because many conventional preservatives are not permitted under organic schemes. With a restricted preservative palette, the microbiological control plan has to rely more on process and packaging, and the validated window is shorter — 18–24 months rather than 30. It is a direct consequence of the certification, not a quality compromise.
Can organic baby wipes come in plastic-free packaging?
Yes, and it is frequently requested alongside. Be aware that a paper-based outer changes the moisture-barrier performance of the pack, which affects both dry-out and shelf life, so it needs to be designed in from the start rather than substituted at the end. We will model the trade-off before you commit.
Which certification should I choose for export?
COSMOS generally travels better into European and several other international markets, while USDA NOP is the recognised mark in the United States. If export is part of the plan, decide early — the permitted ingredient lists differ, and reformulating a certified product to satisfy a second scheme is expensive.
