Sensitive Skin Baby Wipes
We manufacture private label sensitive skin baby wipes built around what is left out — screened against the common paediatric contact allergens, buffered to pH 5.5, on a low-friction high-loft substrate. Made in the USA for baby brands serving atopic and reactive skin.

How it works
Sensitive skin is a formulation exclusion list, not a feature list
Infant skin is measurably different from adult skin: the stratum corneum is around 30% thinner, the barrier is still maturing through the first year, and the surface-area-to-volume ratio means anything applied is proportionally a larger exposure. On atopic or eczema-prone skin the barrier is compromised further, so ingredients that pass unnoticed on healthy adult skin can provoke a reaction. A genuine sensitive-skin wipe is therefore defined by a rigorous exclusion list rather than by an added soothing ingredient.
Ours excludes fragrance and masking fragrance, alcohol, parabens, formaldehyde-releasing preservatives, MI/MCI isothiazolinone preservatives, sulphates, essential oils and common botanical sensitisers. What remains is a very low surfactant load, a pH 5.5 buffer matched to the skin’s acid mantle, and a short list of ingredients with strong paediatric safety records — typically glycerin as a humectant and panthenol for barrier support.
The substrate does more work here than in any other baby SKU. Mechanical friction on inflamed skin causes as much distress as chemistry does, so we use a high-loft, high-elongation nonwoven with a soft emboss that glides rather than drags, at a heavier basis weight so a carer does not need to press. Claims should be substantiated: HRIPT patch testing for hypoallergenic language and paediatrician testing for infant claims. A “hypoallergenic” label with no test behind it is a liability, not a claim.
Excluded by design
✓Fragrance and masking fragrance
✓Alcohol, parabens, sulphates
✓Formaldehyde releasers and MI/MCI preservatives
✓Essential oils and common botanical sensitisers
✓Dyes and unnecessary functional extras
Claims need data. HRIPT patch testing supports hypoallergenic language; paediatrician testing supports infant claims.
Applications
Where sensitive skin baby wipes sell
A smaller volume than the mainstream wipe, and a far more loyal customer — parents who find a wipe that works do not switch.
01
Eczema & atopic dermatitis
The core buyer. Around one in five children experiences eczema, and parents actively search for products screened against contact allergens rather than merely labelled gentle.
02
Nappy rash & compromised skin
Cleansing already-inflamed skin, where low friction and a short ingredient deck matter more than cleansing power.
03
Paediatric & dermatology recommendation
Products recommended in clinic and then bought at retail — an unusually durable route to market because the recommendation outlives the campaign.
04
Premium baby ranges
The sensitive SKU is normally the most expensive wipe in a range and functions as the quality signal for the whole line.
05
Allergy-aware family brands
Families managing multiple allergies, who read ingredient panels on everything and reward transparent disclosure.
06
Adult sensitive skin crossover
The same formulation, resized, sells into adult sensitive-skin and post-procedure care — a straightforward line extension.
Specifications

The substrate specification is unusually important here — friction on inflamed skin is a formulation issue in everything but name.

Comparison
How our baby wipe formulations compare
Sensitive-skin and water wipes are frequently treated as the same product. They are not, and the difference matters clinically.

Private Label & OEM
A claim worth substantiating properly
“Hypoallergenic” is not a regulated term, which means it is worth very little unless you can show the work behind it. We formulate against a documented exclusion list, run HRIPT patch testing and paediatrician testing, and give you the substantiation to put behind the claim — which is what a serious retail buyer will ask for.
✓Documented allergen exclusion list, not a vague gentle claim
✓HRIPT patch testing and paediatrician testing coordinated
✓High-loft low-friction substrate for inflamed skin
✓Custom sachet, softpack, tub and refill formats
✓Substrate fibre, weight and emboss to your spec
✓Full ingredient disclosure for clean-label claims
FAQ
Sensitive skin baby wipes FAQ
What makes a baby wipe suitable for sensitive skin?
Mostly what is not in it. Ours are screened against the common paediatric contact allergens — fragrance and masking fragrance, alcohol, parabens, formaldehyde-releasing and isothiazolinone preservatives, sulphates, essential oils and botanical sensitisers — and buffered to pH 5.5 with a very low non-ionic surfactant load. The substrate is also softer and higher-loft, because friction on inflamed skin is its own irritant.
Are sensitive skin wipes suitable for babies with eczema?
They are formulated for exactly that, and around one in five children experiences eczema at some point. That said, an inflamed, flaring area needs clinical management, and a wipe is a cleansing product rather than a treatment. Pack copy that says so is more credible, not less.
Does “hypoallergenic” actually mean anything?
Only if there is testing behind it. It is not a regulated term, so on its own it is marketing. What gives it substance is HRIPT patch testing on human subjects plus a documented allergen exclusion list, which is what we produce and what a serious retail or clinical buyer will ask to see. We unpack what the term does and does not guarantee in what makes a wet wipe hypoallergenic.
What is the difference between sensitive skin wipes and water wipes?
Water wipes minimise the ingredient list — 99% water plus one ingredient. Sensitive skin wipes accept a slightly longer list in order to add function: a pH 5.5 buffer that supports the acid mantle, and barrier-supporting ingredients like panthenol. For atopic skin the buffered formulation often performs better clinically, even though the label is longer.
Why does the substrate matter for sensitive skin?
Because mechanical friction on inflamed skin causes as much distress as an irritant ingredient does. A thin, low-loft wipe forces the carer to press and drag; a high-loft, high-elongation substrate with a soft emboss glides. We specify a heavier basis weight for this SKU deliberately, and it is one of the things parents notice first.
Can the same formulation be used for adults?
Yes, and it is an easy line extension. Adult sensitive skin, post-procedure cleansing and facial use for reactive skin all suit the same allergen-screened pH 5.5 formulation in a larger wipe with adult-facing packaging. The formulation work is already done.
