How it works

Dry washcloth or pre-moistened bathing wipe — which a facility should specify

Both formats do the same job and they fail in different ways, so the choice is operational rather than clinical. A pre-moistened bathing wipe is faster and consistent: the cloth is saturated with a no-rinse cleanser at a controlled dose, warmed in a cabinet or microwave and used straight from the pack. That is our no-rinse bathing wipes. A dry washcloth is wet at the basin with the facility’s own solution and its own water temperature, which is cheaper per unit, far lighter to ship and store, and lets a facility keep the cleanser it already validated.

Where the dry format genuinely wins is stock and cost. Dry cloths have no preservative, no expiry pressure and about a third of the shipping and storage volume, which matters in a facility ordering by the pallet. Where it loses is time and consistency: someone has to fill a basin, the water cools, and dilution is whatever the person doing it decides. Most large facilities end up running both — dry for routine daily washing, pre-moistened for isolation rooms and anywhere the protocol needs a controlled dose.

Whichever is chosen, the substrate specification is the same and it is not negotiable: wet strength. A cloth that tears mid-procedure is a dignity problem before it is a product problem, and it is the complaint that ends a supply contract. A viscose-only spunlace feels beautiful and loses more than half its strength when saturated; adding polyester at 60 gsm holds over 70% of dry tensile while keeping the drape. That balance, and a sheet large enough to actually wrap a hand, is the whole engineering brief.

Dry wipes are bought by the case far more often than by the pack, so the master carton, the count accuracy and the dispensing method usually matter more than the artwork. We supply interfolded, roll and centre-feed formats alongside retail packs, and we will match an existing dispenser if you send us one.

Dry washcloths or pre-moistened bathing wipes — which is better?

Neither, in general; it depends on what the facility is optimising. Dry cloths cost less per unit, occupy about a third of the storage volume, have no expiry pressure and let you keep a cleanser you have already validated. Pre-moistened wipes are faster, deliver a controlled dose and need no basin. Most large facilities run both — dry for routine daily washing, pre-moistened for isolation and anywhere the protocol requires consistency.

Why does wet strength matter so much on a washcloth?

Because a cloth that tears during a bed bath is a dignity failure before it is a product failure, and it is the single complaint most likely to end a supply agreement. A pure viscose spunlace feels excellent and loses more than half its strength when saturated. Blending in polyester at 60 gsm holds over 70% of dry tensile while keeping the drape, which is why our standard is a blend rather than the softer single fibre.

What size should a disposable washcloth be?

Large enough to wrap a hand — practically, 9″ × 13″ and up. Undersized cloths get used two at a time, which costs more per wash than the larger sheet would have and makes the product feel cheap to the person using it. We tool three sizes as standard and will match an existing specification exactly if you are switching supplier.

Are these washcloths flushable?

No, and they are not designed to be. Flushability is measured by how fast a material disintegrates in water, and wet strength is the direct opposite property — you cannot have a cloth that survives a bed bath and disperses in a sewer. These are bin-disposal products, and any facility protocol should say so explicitly, because flushed nonwovens are a genuine and expensive plumbing problem.

Can you supply them pre-moistened with a no-rinse cleanser?

Yes. We saturate to a stated pick-up weight with a pH-balanced no-rinse formulation, with or without emollients and with a chlorhexidine option where the protocol calls for it. That product is documented separately as our no-rinse bathing wipes, and it uses this same substrate so the hand feel is identical.

Do you supply the documentation procurement will ask for?

Yes — tensile and wet-tensile data, latex-free confirmation, substrate composition, country of manufacture and case-count verification. Facility procurement and infection control both tend to ask for these before a trial rather than after, and having them ready is often what shortens the switch from months to weeks.
