Optical & Lens Wipes

We manufacture private label lens wipes for eyewear, optics and instruments on a fine 30 gsm microfibre-blend substrate, individually wrapped so the wipe stays dust-free until the moment it is opened — because a single trapped particle turns a cleaning wipe into an abrasive.

How it works

Why anti-reflective lens coatings fail — and what strips them

A modern spectacle lens is not a piece of plastic; it is a stack. The substrate carries a hard coat for scratch resistance, then a multi-layer anti-reflective stack a few hundred nanometres thick, then usually a hydrophobic and oleophobic top layer that makes water bead and fingerprints wipe away. Every complaint about lenses that will not come clean, or that develop a fine crazed pattern, is about damage to those top layers — the lens underneath is almost always fine.

Two things destroy them, and both are things people do daily. The first is dry wiping with a shirt tail: airborne grit sits on the lens, and a dry cloth drags it across the coating under pressure. That is not cleaning, it is lapping. The second is the wrong solvent — ammonia-based glass cleaner and high-concentration alcohol both attack the oleophobic layer, and once it is gone the lens smears rather than beads, permanently. Vinegar and acetone are worse. There is no repair; the coating is applied in a vacuum chamber.

So an optical wipe is defined by restraint. Ours carries a low-concentration alcohol and de-ionised water blend with a trace of non-ionic surfactant — enough to lift skin oil, well below the level that degrades an oleophobic layer — on a fine, soft substrate with no abrasive content. The individual sachet is not packaging convenience; it is the specification. A wipe taken from an open tub has been collecting exactly the airborne particles you are trying not to drag across the lens. For automotive touchscreens and aircraft displays, which share the coating problem, see our screen wipes.

At a glance

✓Low-alcohol, de-ionised base — lifts oil without stripping the oleophobic layer

✓No ammonia, no acetone, no abrasive content

✓30 gsm microfibre-blend, soft enough for a coated lens

✓Individually sealed so the wipe is dust-free at the moment of use

✓Safe on AR-coated, polycarbonate, Trivex and glass lenses

Not for: dry-wiping a dusty lens — always remove grit first, with any wipe including ours.

Applications

Where optical & lens wipes are used

A category with an unusually wide buyer base, because the same wipe serves opticians, industry and retail impulse.

01

Opticians and optometry practices

Handed out with every new pair, which makes it one of the highest-frequency branded giveaways in healthcare retail.

02

Eyewear and sunglass brands

In-box with the frames and sold as a consumable afterwards — a natural attachment SKU.

03

Camera, scope and instrument optics

Where the coating stack is more expensive and the consequence of damage is larger.

04

Laboratory and microscopy

Objective lenses and eyepieces, cleaned frequently and by many different hands.

05

Safety eyewear in industry

Distributed at the point of PPE issue, where fogging and grit are constant.

06

Retail and travel impulse

The pocket sachet at the till — small, cheap and bought without deliberation.

Alcohol concentration is the one number that matters most here, and lower is genuinely better for the surface being cleaned.

Packaging formats

  • Single sachet1 wipe per sealed sachet
  • Interfolded pack50–150 sheets, pop-up dispensing
  • Flat pack25–100 sheets, poly-wrapped
  • RollPerforated, 100–500 sheets
  • Dispenser bucketCentre-feed roll for wet systems
  • Bulk caseCustom count, master-carton labelled

Dry wipes are bought by the case far more often than by the pack, so the master carton, the count accuracy and the dispensing method usually matter more than the artwork. We supply interfolded, roll and centre-feed formats alongside retail packs, and we will match an existing dispenser if you send us one.

Comparison

Lens wipes vs. the rest of the dry wipe range

This is the finest substrate in the range and the only one supplied pre-saturated as standard, because a dry optical wipe is an abrasive waiting for grit.

Private Label & OEM

The best-branded sachet in the business

A lens wipe sachet is carried in a pocket, opened in front of other people and used several times a week — there is almost no cheaper way to put a brand in a customer’s hand that often. It is why opticians, eyewear brands and safety-equipment distributors all buy these printed rather than plain, and why the artwork is worth more attention than the formulation.

✓Full-colour sachet printing both sides, with space for a practice name

✓Alcohol concentration set against your lens-coating requirement

✓Co-packing with frames, cases and PPE kits

✓Anti-fog variant for safety eyewear and cold-climate markets

✓FOB, EXW and DDP terms — we handle the paperwork

FAQ

Lens wipes FAQ

What is the correct way to clean eyeglasses?

Rinse or blow the grit off first — that step matters more than anything that follows, because dry-wiping a dusty lens drags particles across the coating under pressure. Then use a low-alcohol wipe or a dedicated lens spray with a clean microfibre cloth, working in straight passes rather than circles, and let it dry or buff gently. Never use a shirt tail, a paper towel or your breath and a sleeve.

What damages anti-reflective coatings?

Abrasion and the wrong solvent. Abrasion comes from dry-wiping grit, paper towels and abrasive cloths. Solvent damage comes from ammonia-based glass cleaner, high-concentration alcohol, acetone and vinegar, all of which attack the oleophobic top layer — after which the lens smears instead of beading, permanently. The coating is applied in a vacuum chamber and cannot be repaired or reapplied outside one.

Can I use glass cleaner or an alcohol wipe on my glasses?

You can, and it is the most common way good lenses are ruined. Household glass cleaner is usually ammonia-based, and ammonia degrades both the anti-reflective stack and the oleophobic layer. A 70% alcohol prep pad is also too aggressive for repeated use on coated lenses. The right product is a low-alcohol, de-ionised formulation — which is exactly what an optical wipe is, and why it is a separate product rather than a smaller glass wipe.

Why are lens wipes individually wrapped?

Because it is the specification, not the packaging. A wipe from an open tub has been sitting in room air collecting exactly the dust you are trying not to drag across a lens, and it also dries out unevenly so the last wipes in the pack under-clean. A foil sachet means the first and the last wipe are identical and neither has collected anything. It is also what makes the format a giveaway.

Do these work on camera lenses and microscope optics?

Yes, with one caution. The chemistry and the substrate are appropriate for coated optics generally, and the individually-wrapped format is if anything more important there. The caution is that high-value optics should always be blown clean with air first and never wiped under pressure — the coating stacks are the same technology as spectacle lenses and fail the same way, but the replacement cost is very different.

Can you make an anti-fog lens wipe?

Yes. The anti-fog variant leaves a thin hydrophilic layer that makes condensation spread into a transparent film rather than bead into fog — genuinely useful for safety eyewear, cold-climate markets and anyone wearing a mask. It trades a small amount of streak resistance for the effect, so we run it as a separate SKU in the same artwork family rather than blending it into the standard wipe.
