Lint-Free Wipes

We manufacture private label lint free wipes on hydroentangled nonwoven — bonded by physically tangling the fibres with high-pressure water rather than gluing them, which is the reason there is nothing loose to shed. Built for optics, electronics, instrument work and any finishing job where one stray fibre ruins the piece.

How it works

What makes a wipe lint-free — and how it is actually measured

“Lint-free” is an unregulated phrase, which means it is worth understanding what it should mean before buying on it. Lint is loose fibre released under friction, and whether a nonwoven releases fibre is decided almost entirely by how it was bonded. Thermally bonded and chemically bonded fabrics hold their fibres with heat or adhesive at discrete points; between those points the fibres are free, and abrasion pulls them out. Hydroentangled fabric — spunlace — is bonded by firing high-pressure water jets through the web so the fibres physically knot around each other. There is no binder and far less loose fibre, which is why every genuinely low-lint wipe is a spunlace.

Fibre choice does the rest. Long-staple polyester sheds far less than short cellulose fibres, so the ratio in the blend sets the floor: our standard is a polyester-rich blend at 55 gsm, and we run 100% polyester where the particle requirement is tighter. Edges matter too, and they are the part specifiers forget — a die-cut edge releases fibre where an ultrasonically sealed or laser-cut edge does not, which is why a wipe can pass a surface test and fail at the perimeter.

If it needs to be provable rather than merely claimed, it is measured. The Helmke drum test tumbles wipes and counts particles released into the air by size, and liquid particle counting measures what comes off into solution. Those numbers are what a cleanroom or electronics customer actually specifies against, and we will run them for a programme that needs them. A supplier who cannot tell you which test their “lint-free” claim came from does not have one.

At a glance

✓Hydroentangled — no thermal or chemical binder to release fibre

✓Polyester-rich blend; 100% polyester available for tighter limits

✓Sealed or laser-cut edges where perimeter shed matters

✓Helmke drum and liquid particle counting available on request

✓Supplied dry, or pre-saturated with your own solution

Not for: heavy oil absorbency — a low-lint sheet is a poor sponge; use our industrial dry wipes for that.

Applications

Where lint-free wipes are used

The common thread is not cleanliness in general but the cost of a single fibre landing in the wrong place.

01

Optics and instrument work

Lens surfaces, sensor housings and coated glass, where a trapped fibre becomes a visible defect at magnification.

02

Electronics assembly and repair

Board work, connector cleaning and display bonding, where fibre contamination causes an intermittent fault rather than a visible one.

03

Paint and finishing preparation

Tack and solvent wiping before coating, where a fibre in the film is a rework.

04

Laboratory and analytical work

Bench, instrument and glassware wiping where particulate would confound a measurement.

05

Print and imaging

Roller, plate and sensor cleaning, a high-consumption application usually bought on a supply contract.

06

Medical device manufacturing

Assembly and packaging areas operating to a documented particulate limit.

Specifications

Lint-free wipe specifications

This is a substrate product, so the specification is a materials specification — fibre, weight, bonding and edge, rather than chemistry.

Packaging formats

  • Single sachet1 wipe per sealed sachet
  • Interfolded pack50–150 sheets, pop-up dispensing
  • Flat pack25–100 sheets, poly-wrapped
  • RollPerforated, 100–500 sheets
  • Dispenser bucketCentre-feed roll for wet systems
  • Bulk caseCustom count, master-carton labelled

Dry wipes are bought by the case far more often than by the pack, so the master carton, the count accuracy and the dispensing method usually matter more than the artwork. We supply interfolded, roll and centre-feed formats alongside retail packs, and we will match an existing dispenser if you send us one.

Comparison

Lint-free vs. the rest of the dry wipe range

Every product in this range is a different answer to the same question: what does the substrate need to do. Here the answer is release nothing.

Private Label & OEM

Specify it properly and it stops being a commodity

Most lint-free wipes are bought on price because most of them are sold on an unsupported claim. A programme that specifies fibre ratio, basis weight, edge finish and a particle test is a different product with a different margin, and it is far harder for a buyer to switch away from. We convert from our own substrate in New York, so those are all real variables rather than catalogue options.

✓Fibre ratio set against your particle requirement

✓Sealed or laser-cut edges where perimeter shed matters

✓Helmke drum and liquid particle data for your documentation

✓Dry or pre-saturated with your own chemistry

✓FOB, EXW and DDP terms — we handle the paperwork

FAQ

Lint-free wipes FAQ

What actually makes a wipe lint-free?

The bonding method, more than anything else. Hydroentangled — spunlace — fabric is bonded by firing water jets through the fibre web so the fibres knot around each other, with no adhesive and no thermal spot bonds. Thermally and chemically bonded fabrics hold fibres only at discrete points, and abrasion pulls them free between those points. After bonding, fibre length and the edge finish decide the rest.

Is “lint-free” a regulated claim?

No, which is exactly why it should be treated with suspicion. Anyone can print it. What makes it meaningful is a number from a defined test — a Helmke drum count of particles released by size, or a liquid particle count of what comes off into solution. If a supplier cannot say which test produced their claim, they are describing an aspiration. We will run either test for a programme that needs it.

What is the difference between a lint-free wipe and a microfibre cloth?

Microfibre is a woven or knitted textile of split synthetic filament, reusable and very good at trapping particles in its structure. A lint-free nonwoven is single-use, cannot carry contamination between jobs, and releases far less fibre than a microfibre cloth that has been laundered a few times. Laundering is where microfibre quietly becomes a lint source, which is the argument for disposable in any controlled environment.

Can lint-free wipes be used with solvents?

Yes — polyester-rich spunlace is compatible with IPA, acetone, MEK and most common industrial solvents, which is why it is the standard substrate for solvent wiping. Cellulose-heavy blends absorb more but swell and shed more when saturated, so the higher the solvent content of the job, the higher the polyester ratio should be. Tell us the solvent and we will set the blend.

Can you supply them pre-saturated with our own solution?

Yes, and that is a common programme — you supply or specify the chemistry, we saturate to a stated pick-up weight and pack into sachets, canisters or dispenser buckets. It removes the dilution error entirely and gives a consistent dose per wipe. For customers who prefer to saturate in-house we supply the same substrate dry: see our dry wipes for wet systems.

What size should a lint-free wipe be?

Smaller than people expect, usually. A 4″ × 4″ or 6″ × 6″ sheet is right for optics and electronics because the job is small and the wipe is single-use — a larger sheet just costs more per action. The 9″ and 12″ sizes are for finishing and solvent wiping where surface area is the point. We tool all four and will run a size that is not on the list.
